I run Globaliser, which exists because of a problem I kept hitting personally: a site that is genuinely fast in one country can be painfully slow in another, and almost nothing in the standard performance toolchain tells you that. You test from your own machine, in your own city, on your own connection, and the number comes back green. Meanwhile the customer you actually wanted is three continents away, waiting.

How I got here I got my DOS and spreadsheet certificate before Windows 95 shipped. Writing code since 1997, doing SEO since 2001. Since then I have worked remotely with companies of every size, in the USA, Japan, the UK, Europe and South America. I have owned an ecommerce store and built ecommerce systems for startups and multinationals. I have had my share of failed ventures. The only job I ever took was at a San Francisco startup, as its first principal engineer: I built the product, then built the team. Now I share what I know through Globaliser, making sites faster and the experience better for the people using them.

Tama University, Art Exhibition, Tokyo – 2007

My friend Go was finishing at Tama Art University, and he needed a face for his graduation project. He used mine. The work was shown at the university’s graduation exhibition in Tokyo in 2007, which means the only gallery wall I have ever hung on, I hung on as raw material rather than as the artist. The two weathered portraits below are his, not photographs of me.
